“I feel completely fine.”
“I used to be terrified of frogs — I’d refuse to even go near the garden when we were on holidays in Queensland. After just two sessions with Lucas, I can stand right next to one now and feel completely fine.”

What we resolve

Types of phobias I work with

Flying Turbulence, take-off, or the months of dread before a trip you actually want to take.
Animals and insects Spiders, snakes, dogs, birds, moths — and the rooms and gardens you will not enter.
Needles, blood and dentists Medical and dental fears that leave appointments postponed for years at a time.
Heights and enclosed spaces Balconies, lifts, tunnels, bridges, or anywhere that feels closed in.
Vomiting and choking Fears about the body and losing control that most people never say out loud.
Driving The freeway, merging, passengers, or returning to the wheel after an accident.
Public spaces and crowds Supermarkets, cinemas, public transport, or anywhere that feels hard to leave.
Specific one-off fears Thunderstorms, water, buttons, clowns, balloons — no phobia is too unusual to bring.

Whatever the trigger, you probably already know the fear is out of proportion. Knowing that just doesn’t make it go away. Nothing is wrong with you. Some of the kindest, most capable people I’ve worked with have lived with exactly this.

What is really happening

What’s the difference between anxiety and a phobia?

In the body, they feel identical — the same racing heart, the same urge to get out. Underneath, they behave very differently.

Anxiety is broad. It drifts across work, relationships, health and the future, and it changes from day to day: manageable in the morning, overwhelming by the afternoon. It usually builds from many stresses stacked up over time, and it settles gradually as that load is released.

A phobia is precise. One trigger, and outside of it you may feel entirely at ease. The same trigger fires the same response every time, however calm you felt five minutes earlier — usually because your subconscious decided, in one specific moment, that this must never happen again.

That precision is the good news. A narrow, consistent mechanism is far easier to change than a diffuse one — which is why phobias are often the fastest work I do.

Many people have both: a phobia sitting on top of wider anxiety. That is common, and it simply means we settle the anxiety underneath as well, so the change holds.

Why you are not broken

Your subconscious is trying to protect you. It is just doing it a little too well.

The primary objective of your subconscious is to keep you safe.

Most phobias begin with a single moment — a rough flight, a dog bite, a childhood fright — or are learned by watching a parent react with fear. In that instant, your subconscious did exactly what it was designed to do: it decided this is dangerous, and attached a full emergency response to that one trigger. Now, whenever the trigger appears, the alarm fires.

But here’s the thing: that association was learned. Which means it can be unlearned.

There is nothing wrong with you. It is a protective response — a powerful one, but a protective response all the same.

Why it may not have shifted yet

You know it’s safe in the 5%. The alarm fires in the 95%.

5% 95%
5% · Conscious Reasoning, reassurance, talking it through.
95% · Subconscious The association between the trigger and danger.

You’ve reasoned with the fear, tried to breathe through it, maybe forced yourself to face it — and still, it keeps showing up. Please be gentle with yourself: it isn’t your fault. You’ve simply been given tools that work somewhere other than where a phobia lives.

Most approaches to phobias — reasoning, breathing, white-knuckling through the trigger — work with the conscious, logical mind. And pushing through or steering around it quietly tells your subconscious it must be dangerous. Research in psychology suggests that as much as 95% of our thoughts, emotions and behaviours are driven by subconscious, automatic processes.

That’s where the fear is held: the moment the phobia began, and the association it left behind. Beneath the reach of logic, it keeps telling your subconscious “I can’t handle this” — and the switch stays on.

Pushing through keeps the phobia in place. Updating it sets you free.

To resolve a phobia, we work gently with the place where the switch actually lives.

The subconscious mind.

Hypnotherapy

That’s where hypnotherapy comes in.

Hypnosis induces a calm, relaxing, yet focused state that quiets the brain’s threat response, including activity in areas like the amygdala and an over-reactive limbic system. This is what makes the subconscious reachable.

Forget the stage show. Nobody takes control of your mind, and nothing is being done to you. You stay conscious and aware the whole way through, steering the process — less like giving up agency, more like finally being handed the controls.

Combined with the other Resolve Anxiety Method tools, it gives you a remarkably powerful way of updating the patterns driving the phobia — and resolving it for good.

The Resolve Anxiety Method

Stop coping. Start resolving.

The goal isn’t to become better at avoiding the trigger. It’s to stop needing to.

1 Discover

Learn how your phobia works.

Together, we map out your pattern: the trigger, what your subconscious links it to, and how the alarm fires. Once you can see it clearly, you stop fighting your subconscious and start working with it as a team.

2 Connect

Speak to your subconscious.

Using simple Resolve Anxiety tools, you learn to reduce the fear instead of white-knuckling through it. This goes beyond coping. It’s one clear message your subconscious understands: “I can handle this.”

3 Resolve

Take the charge off the trigger.

In hypnosis, we work directly with your subconscious, separating the trigger from the emergency response and settling the emotional charge that keeps the fear in place. We go at a pace that always feels safe.

4 Become

Make calm your natural response.

Then, still in that relaxed hypnotic state, we rehearse you boarding the flight, stepping into the lift or walking past the dog, calm and resourceful, until that becomes your new normal.

Your calmer, freer self is closer than you think.

3–6 sessions. That is how long this process takes for most clients.

Questions people ask about this

I have no idea why I am afraid of it. Does that matter?

Not at all. Plenty of people never uncover a cause, consciously or otherwise. We work with how the response runs now, and results are the same either way.

Will you make me hold a spider or get on a plane?

No. Nothing is forced, and there is no endurance test. We change the response in the chair; meeting the real thing afterwards is confirmation, not treatment.

How long does a phobia usually take?

Usually a few sessions, not years. A simple phobia with no wider anxiety often takes two to three; with anxiety underneath, three to six; where there is past trauma, up to around ten. We will confirm what is realistic for you on the call.

What does it cost?

Your first session is 90 minutes and costs $240. Follow-up sessions are $180. The 15-minute call beforehand is free.

Think of everything you’ve said no to because of it. That list doesn’t have to get any longer.
